Deadline: 9 April 2017
Region: Euro-Mediterranean region
The Migration Media Award will recognize and reward the excellence, relevance and newsworthiness of up to 36 journalism pieces dealing with migration in the Euro-Mediterranean region. The stories competing for the Migration Media Award funded by the European Union have to be published in between 1 April 2016 and 31 March 2017. Earlier published stories cannot be accepted.
The current discourse surrounding migration has taken a dramatically negative turn in the last decade both within Europe and internationally, demanding a review on how information pertaining to migration is gathered, shared and disseminated amongst different actors, which greatly affects both migration policy and public perception.
The Migration Media Award consists of winning an EU-funded contract to produce a new original, longer, or more detailed, more researched content covering other aspects of migration or the issue initially dealt with.
Proven capacity and documented intent to publish/air content is a key element for eligibility which is open to all journalists and media houses based on both sides of the Mediterranean.
Funding varies in amount and will be adapted by the Award funding partners to the needs of the production proposed, within the limits described in the Eligibility & Application section, and submitted to the approval of the European Commission – Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR).
The winners of the Migration Media Award will be announced in early June and the award ceremony will be held on 22 June in Malta.
