A short film by Let the Roma Youth be Heard trainees

Dates: 15-16 December 2012

Country: UK, London

roma_trainingMedia Diversity Institute training – “Let the Roma Youth Be Heard” – has been finalised in December 2012. As a result of three-part MDI media training for young Roma, Gypsies and Travellers residing in the UK, a short film has been produced as well as many clips and written stories.

MDI’s media training aimed to breathe life into the phrase “in order to challenge the media, you have to become the media” by quickly giving its participants the skills to tell their community’s stories.

The selected trainees were taught by the well-known journalist Jake Bowers who was born into a Romanichel family with 17 other siblings.

In the workshop in December 2012, the trainees have made a short film about the extremes of wealth and the differences between poor and wealthy that can be seen in London at the Christmas times.

The other clips and short films made by young Roma trainees can be watched on YouTube channel “Roma Youth Be Heard”.
