“I’m delighted to be joining the team at MDI. These are committed activists and specialists who understand well the role of diversity in building confident, open and peaceful societies.”
After 24 years in the leadership of the world’s largest journalists’ group Aidan White is joining MDI as a contributing editor and advisor.
Aidan White says: “I’m delighted to be joining the team at MDI. These are committed activists and specialists who understand well the role of diversity in building confident, open and peaceful societies. They know, too, that the work of journalists is a crucial part of the mix. Whenever prejudice and bigotry poison our communications we need accurate, unbiased and ethical journalism to counter unscrupulous politics and to help people better understand the world around them.”
White worked as a journalist in the UK before leaving The Guardian in 1987 to join the International Federation of Journalists in Brussels as General Secretary. He is a long-time campaigner for journalists’ rights and for high standards in media.
With the IFJ he established the International Media Working Group Against Racism in the Media in the 1990s and in 2006 he launched the global campaign Ethical Journalism Initiative. His book To Tell You The TRUTH (2008) also highlights the importance of combatting intolerance through ethical journalism.
