CIVIS – Europe’s Media Prize for Integration and Cultural Diversity reports a new record participation this year with 690 entries. Once again, programmes from 22 countries in the EU and Switzerland will take part in the European CIVIS competition in 2011. Programme makers and broadcasting corporations from all over Europe are competing for Europe’s most important media prize for integration and cultural diversity.

For over two decades now, CIVIS has been honouring programmes on radio, TV, and since last year also on the Internet, which promote the peaceful coexistence of people with the most varied ethnic, religious or cultural origins. An international jury of independent media experts will select the programmes to be nominated for the final round in Berlin. The prize is endowed with a total of 40,000 Euro. The deadline for the submission of entries was January 20, 2011.

The CIVIS Media Prize 2011 will be presented on May 26, 2011, during an official prize-giving ceremony at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. The ARD/Das Erste German TV channel will broadcast the event in its evening programme. The German Federal President and the President of the European Parliament are patrons of the CIVIS Media Prize 2011.
