A report with the results of the monitoring of Estonian media in year 2005. It focuses on how media responded to the following issues: equal treatment, concrete cases from Estonia, EU related legislation and policies, stereotypes, clichés… Secondly, it analyses cases of discrimination of ethnic minorities in Estonia retrieved by the LICHR on the telephone hotline from the victims of discrimination.
The text also contains results of the sociological studies with regards to tolerance and equal treatment, correspondence of the national legal system to the requirement of the international bodies and first of all EU, examples of the issues in Denmark (the cartoons case) and France (the riots of 2005), positive examples of the Netherlands and Finland and recommendations for Estonia given by the foreign media representatives. It also includes the texts of the EU Race and Employment Directives in Estonian and Russian languages. The publication is available in hard copy and on CD (the CD affords more texts). The handbook was published by the Legal Information Centre for Human Rights from Estonia in 2006 in Tallinn.
